Qualitative Research
Facebook Survey

Because the theme of my project is the idea behind the concept of 'Colour' and how it affects society, I decided the first piece of research I would undertake would be a survey on a social media platform asking people what their favourite colour was and why. I thought this would be a good idea because then I would be able to show the significance of certain colours and how much they mean to people in a variety of different ways. These were the results.

I was really happy with the results of this piece of research. It proved that a colour can have a really big impact on people and the representations of each colour were very significant. Colours were personalised as being 'strong', 'girly', 'calm' and 'warm.' These results prove how easily colours can be embedded in personality- which is exactly what I am intending to show in my film through Euiva's perspective.

Quantitative Research

I found out these facts about colour psychology and depression/dementia in elderly people from Mental Health Statistics and WedMD:

  • 1 in 5 elderly people suffer from depression
  • 2 in 5 elderly people suffer from depression in a care home
  • In 2015, there will 850,000 people suffering from Dementia in the UK
  • One in three people over 65 will die of Dementia
  • Later life depression affects on average 6 million people in America, but only 10% is diagnosed.
