Colour Psychology

The first people I wanted to get in contact with were psychologists who specialise in the use of colour in treating a variety of illnesses such as depression, anxiety, autism and memory loss. I also wanted to explore the marketing use of colour. I discovered there were specialists who looked into the psychology of certain colours to help advertise products and help businesses draw in a certain clientele. Here are a few examples:

Angela Wright is part of the 'colour affects' company and is a certified colour psychologist. I messaged her asking about her work and whether we could discuss how to make the facts in my project as legitimate as possible. I really hope to hear back from her and have offered to phone, email or even come and meet her in London.

Karen Haller

Karen Haller is also a colour psychologist who specialises in the use of colour within the business/interior design world. She also talks about the link between emotion and colour- how some colours in our home and environment affect the way we feel. I hope to be able to speak to her about her research and whether she approves of the way I am portraying my characters.

UPDATE: Received a reply on 10th October. Have sent her extracts of my script to see whether she thinks my characterisation is suitable for the colour they are embodying.

Work Experience at Care Home

As part of further research into the causes of elderly depression and dementia, I decided to draw on my experience when I volunteered in a care home in Woking plus my memories of speaking to my grandparents and great grandparents. This face-to-face research was invaluable and it made me realise how out of touch elderly people can feel in the modern world. It was actually my Nan who told me that she felt like she was 'black and white in a rainbow world.' This was the idea behind my film as well as the tagline so clearly this small piece of research influenced me a lot more than I realised.
